(I wish I were in Portland, OR sometimes.)

    FROM THE FRAMEWORKS LIST:

    Small Gauge Film Symposium
Association of Moving Image Archivists Annual Conference
    Portland, Oregon ? November 6-10, 2001
    __________________________________________________ ___________

A Small Gauge Film Symposium with four days of workshops, screenings and
presentations on film of all kinds on small gauges-in particular 8 mm and
Super 8-will take place November 6-10, 2001, in Portland, Oregon, as part of
the Association of Moving Image Archivists (AMIA) Annual Conference.
The purpose of the Symposium is to share knowledge on small format films
including technical issues, topics relating to presentation, appraisal,
documentation, reuse and ethics, and the concerns of artists and amateur
creators, as well as moving image archivists and other custodians.
In addition to the serious side, the Symposium is dedicated to the joy and
diversity of small gauge film and will be an opportunity to meet people who
    share common interests.
AMIA Conference registration includes participation in all panels and
screenings (there is an additional charge for workshops.)
The AMIA conference program will also include other sessions relevant to
those with personal and professional interests in this area. At the
conference, held in the Portland Marriott Downtown, hundreds of
representatives from archives, production libraries, television networks,
major studios, laboratories, and universities will gather. A Vendor
Exhibition is an opportunity for conference participants to learn about the
    latest
resources. The Reel Thing, an advanced technical symposium held on
Wednesday, will present examples of the latest laboratory work.
The conference is open to all, regardless of membership in AMIA. For more
info call 310-550-1300, or email [email protected].
Development was assisted by funding from the Library of Congress's National
Film Preservation Board and Sony Pictures Entertainment, which hosted a June
2000 Roundtable, and has made a donation of $5,000 to AMIA to help sponsor
the Symposium. A grant of $5,000 from the National Endowment for the Arts
will support honoraria and travel for artists to share their work with AMIA.

    SMALL GAUGE SESSIONS
    ? A Hands-on Small Gauge Technical Orientation
? Mighty Small Gauge Film: The Long View
? A Primer on Restoring and Preserving Small Gauge Films

    SCREENINGS
There will be four curated small gauge screenings offering insight into the
worlds of home movies, cine clubs, artists' films, and commercially
distributed films of interest to archivists and scholars.

If It Moves We'll Shoot It: A Screening of Films created by California
Amateur Film Clubs. In attendance will be Sid Laverents, the creator of
Multiple Sidosis, a club hit named to the National Film Registry in 2000.
    Curated by Melinda Stone.

Bringing the Greatest Stars to the Home: Entertainment Films in Small
    Formats.
Rare titles in 16mm, 8mm and 9.5mm including clips from promotional films,
tinted films, two-color processes, animations, scenics, and Hollywood and
European features. Curated by Rusty Casselton and David Pierce.

Big as Life: A Retrospective of Small-Gauge Artists Cinema in America.
Performances by the artists' group silt, a three-projector Super-8
performance by Scott Stark, and films by Phil Solomon, Janis Crystal Lipzin,

Home Movies as Folk Art. In many cases these modest, though often
beautifully made, films provide us with the only first-hand visual records
of the significant rituals and routines of ordinary people and their lives
we will ever have. In addition, these films convey a vivid sense of their
times unsurpassed by any other medium. Curated by Steve Anker.

    Chas-

You might want to check this out.

Your timing is early, but the people putting this on might know something.

Your trip to Portland might be an opportunity to get some rare "stock" shot for some upcoming project.

    Good Luck.

Just thought I'd kick this back up to the first page by posting on it.

This is kind of like a Super-8 Convention.

Wow, topics drop off the first page and descend quite rapidly, this one was already on page 4 or 5.
